*There are numerous limitations to numbers collected on medical malpractice. According to Fielding in the 2/95 issue of Social Problems , "Victims of medical malpractice often do not file claims." Vincent, Young and Phillips, in the 6/25/94 issue of The Lancet say, "In the USA there are eight times as many instances of negligence as claims for compensation... The chance of a doctor being sued after a negligent event was only one in fifty." Medical mistakes can also be concealed and covered up.
